HISTORIC GARDEN WEEK 2011


Historic Garden Week 2011 in Virginia occurs from April 16 - 23.  Proceeds from tours of private homes and gardens supports preservation work at historic sites throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Garden Club of Virginia’s Restoration Committee selects these landscape projects that maintain our precious heritage. The Albemarle -Charlottesville Country Homes and Gardens tour is sponsored by Rivanna Garden Club, Albemarle Garden Club and Charlottesville Garden Clubs.    HGW 2011 is scheduled from April 16 – 23, 2011.  Mrs. C. Wilson McNeely and Mrs. James B. Neligan, Co-Chairmen are coordinating the local fundraising event.
 

Charlottesville-Albemarle Historic Garden Week Celebrates 78th Year Saturday, April 16 through Tuesday, April 19, 2011.

The Garden Club of Virginia’s Historic Garden Week will celebrate 78 years of preserving Virginia’s heritage.  The 2011 tour in Charlottesville and Albemarle County is presented by: the Albemarle Garden Club, the Rivanna Garden Club and the Charlottesville Garden Club.  This year’s tour will include: Farmington Country Club and some of its neighborhood’s private homes and gardens, as well as the Morven Estate, the Pavilions on the Lawn at The University of Virginia, and Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson. Events throughout the tour will include house and garden tours, lectures, an exhibit interpreting art through flowers, and panel discussions. All funds raised benefit the restoration of historic Virginia properties. Locally, Monticello and The University of Virginia boast gardens that have been restored through Historic Garden Week.   For further information, including a schedule of events and homes open for each day please go The Garden Club of Virginia website.
